Christmas is a good time for each of us to intentionally pause life and behold the wonder of Jesus.
There’s a difference between taking a quick look at something versus focusing as we gaze lovingly and gratefully. To behold something is to intentionally gaze for a prolonged time at it and contemplate it. Appreciate it. Give thanks for it.
To behold is what the angel instructed the shepherds to do in Luke 2:9-11:
”An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”’
What is the best news that God wants you to behold this Christmas?
- God planned you and created you so that He can intentionally and forever immensely love you. You’re not here by coincidence or by accident. None of us are.
- God wants you to live forever with Him in heaven and wants to start by having a relationship with you here on Earth.
Behold, God came to earth. That’s just huge.
Beholding Him is the start of having that relationship with God.
There are a great number of important things we’d never know about God if it weren’t for the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
God became human so that we’d be able to see what he’s really like. Because of Jesus, we see that God loves each of us immensely, forgives each of us for all our screw ups and sin, and has purpose for each of our lives.
So, this Christmas season, let’s agree to….
Behold, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior
Let’s make Him the Lord of our lives each day.
