Helping To Get You There

The society has a long history of desiring to help those in training and in missions attend the COS Annual Meeting. Our hope is that this meeting would significantly impact both your professional and spiritual journey and that you will become an active member of the society going forward, personally investing in the next generation of ophthalmologists and missionaries.

In order to be good stewards of our grant money, we have revised the requirements for eligibility. You may apply for this grant if you meet one of these categories:

  1. Ophthalmology Resident or Fellow (Must be a Member in Training – MIT)
  2. A Medical Student planning an ophthalmology residency who has completed their 3rd or 4th year on July 1 of the Annual Meeting year. (Must be a Member in Training – MIT)
  3. Full time, support-based ophthalmic missionary

Grant Policy for Missionaries 

Typically, the grant will pay for:

  • Meeting Registration Fees
  • Lodging (If applicable, for both you and your family)
  • Food that is included in the meeting

If you are travelling with your family, or your program will pay all or part of the expenses, please refer to the appropriate policy page (see above) for more details.

It was a blessing to be able to go to the COS meeting this year. I had no idea that such an amazing group exists within Ophthalmology. It was an honor to be around so many other like minded physicians who dedicate their lives to serve God and others. The Grand Rounds Super Bowl was an interesting dynamic that added to the conference.

I was thrilled and immensely blessed to be able to attend the 2017 COS meeting in Lake Junaluska, NC. As a resident in training, it was encouraging to fellowship with other residents, medical students, and interact with others who are living out their faith in practice each any every day with their patients and staff. I was truly inspired to continue living for Christ in the midst of these often difficult days of training. We must be a light unto those around us in our daily encounters, especially with our patients. Please know that your generous gifts are so very appreciated! COS is having a ripple effect amongst the young ophthalmologists- reaching more trainees each and every year. I look forward to the day when I too am able to help fund a young trainee's journey to a COS meeting.

In my first time attending the COS annual meeting, I was blessed to be able to meet many like-minded individuals who are motivated by their love for Christ to advance the field of ophthalmology and love their patients well. I enjoyed the variety of topics, including some from pioneers in the field. I also enjoyed the missionary night, hearing about the work God is doing through individuals and families around the world and how we can help out. I was profoundly blessed by the support from the society to attend the meeting, not just covering the attendance fees but also the lodging costs and food. Being willing to accommodate my wife as well was an additional blessing. Thanks so much!
