Enlightening Eyes in Eswatini – Vol. 1.6 – Amazing Provision!

Update from Jono Pons, MD

March 2024

Greetings from our family and mission partners at Mabuda Farm in Eswatini!

We continue to see amazing provision from God in all areas of our calling and mission here in Southern Africa. We ask for you to pray with us in the following developments arising from the first few months of this year:

  • Dr Ryan Hadaway our new Ophthalmic trainee and his wife Dr Megan who are working in different sites and are showing great dedication to serving in Eswatini in spite of being separated for most of the working week. We pray for their hearts and minds to be transformed as they become a part of our community and mission.
  • My mission next week to Upington Northern Cape South Africa, a desperately neglected area where we perform high volume cataract surgery to restore sight to some of the poorest people in that country.
  • Current building projects include the Helicopter Hangar and Pilots House as we face supply and weather issues.
  • Wisdom as we walk in faith for a new clinic and OR building, and as we sponsor increasing numbers of surgeries.
  • Thanks for the opportunity to learn and be a speaker at the Ophthalmic Society of Southern Africa meeting in February.
  • Our Easter Family Camping Holiday in April, it will be a time for fellowship and deep connection to our Father God.

Sending you our love and warm greetings!

Two ex-trainees, now Senior Residents in South Africa; Drs Emma Pons and Graeme Knight, gave their papers at the Residents Presentations. Both did audits of Glaucoma procedures in Eswatini.
2 winners: Graeme won the prize for his Analysis of the GATT Surgery I’ve been pioneering in Southern Africa.
